ASOS size guide: own-brand charts and marketplace sizing

Understand which ASOS size chart applies to your item, what body measurements mean, and why an ASOS shirt size may not transfer to every label sold there.

THE QUICK ANSWER

First identify the brand on the product page. ASOS's own-brand charts describe intended body measurements and are not a universal chart for every brand sold on ASOS. Next select the department and garment category, then check the item's fit and length.

Check the brand before the size label

ASOS's men's shirts guide explicitly scopes its chart to ASOS own-brand clothing. It lists body chest and neck measurements. A size choice based on that chart should not be silently transferred to a different label sold on the same website.

When comparing two items, note the brand, product name, department and chart link for each. This keeps a retailer-level browsing session from turning into an accidental cross-brand size conversion.

A shirt has more than one fit constraint

For a shirt you intend to button at the neck, record both collar and chest information. If your chest points to one row and your neck to another, consider the product's cut and collar requirements rather than averaging the two into a size.

A shirt worn open over a T-shirt presents a different fit question from one worn buttoned under a blazer. Decide how you will wear it, then compare the measurements relevant to that use.

Check length separately from the label

Example: comparing a dress and a shirt

A US number on a dress and a letter on a shirt cannot be compared just because both items are in the same shopping basket. Use the dress chart's requested bust, waist and hip measurements, and the shirt chart's requested measurements, separately.

If one product lists centimetres and the other inches, use the converter below. It changes units only. It cannot turn an ASOS own-brand M into another brand's M or determine whether a garment's silhouette is right for you.

Convert inches and centimetres

Change measurement units before comparing charts. Clothing size labels such as M, US 8 or EU 40 cannot be converted here.

Common questions

Does ASOS use the same size chart for every brand?

The reviewed ASOS chart is explicitly for its own-brand clothing. Check the size information attached to the specific product when buying another label.

Does a size conversion confirm that a dress will fit?

No. A label conversion is a starting point. Compare the relevant body measurements, the item's cut and any confirmed garment dimensions.
