Open the exact item's size chart and distinguish body dimensions from finished-product dimensions. UNIQLO's US guidance makes this distinction explicitly. Compare a product width with a similarly measured garment you own, rather than treating that width as your body circumference.
Find the US chart for this item
UNIQLO's US help page directs shoppers to the sizing options on the product page. Its chart can display inches or centimetres. The help page also distinguishes the product's actual dimensions from body dimensions and notes that US sizing may differ from other markets.
Save the product name, selected size and measuring instructions together. An old purchase in the same letter size is a useful reference only after you check that its cut and market match the new item.
Which number are you looking at?
| Chart describes | Compare with | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Body dimensions | Your body measured as instructed | Doubling a body chest range |
| Finished chest width | The same flat width on a similar top | Comparing directly with body circumference |
| Finished inseam | A reference trouser's inside-leg seam | Assuming waist size also determines length |
Example: a wider but shorter T-shirt
Imagine your favourite shirt is 21 inches across the chest and 28 inches long. A candidate is 22 inches wide and 27 inches long. The candidate offers more width but less length. Going down a size to reduce the width may also shorten it further.
This is why a boxy cut can suit a different purpose from a longer regular-fit shirt. Write down which difference you want to change before selecting another label. The calculator below compares one dimension at a time; repeat it for length using the length option.
These are illustrative garment dimensions, not UNIQLO size data.
Does UNIQLO run small or true to size?
The reviewed guidance does not establish one answer for every item. A useful test is whether the item's chart and intended silhouette match your reference garment and fit preference. Treat fitted, regular and oversized styles as separate comparisons.
For trousers, check rise and leg shape as well as waist and inseam. For a top worn over layers, compare it with a garment you already layer comfortably. Bring the actual product chart to your FitPreview analysis when available.
Compare two garment measurements
Use the same measurement points on two similar garments. This calculates a dimensional difference, not a recommended clothing size.
Common questions
Can I reuse my UNIQLO size from another country?
Check the local product chart first. UNIQLO's US guidance says US sizes can differ from other countries; a letter label alone does not establish equivalent dimensions.
Does a product chest width equal my chest size?
No. A flat garment width, a full garment circumference and a body circumference are different measurements. Read the chart heading and measurement diagram before comparing.
